Keiko OGAWA

Tokio, 1974

Based in Barcelona since 2005. Usually her themes are intimate, solitary figures (many self-portraits) in interiors where architectural elements of the centrally located “Eixample” district of Barcelona often stand out. Her compositions and the geometry of the hydraulic floors confer a visual order that contrasts with her sketchy technique and the abstract character of her bold, both in color and gesture, brushstrokes. The artist wants to transmit values such as spirituality, reflection, observation, learning, calm? but not through an idyllic natural environment, but living it from an urban world that she offers to beautify.

Travelling around the world (one of her passions after painting) met her husband, a well-known Catalan painter. In 2005, Keiko settled in Barcelona, where she began to paint professionally.  Since Keiko lives in Barcelona, she likes to paint our buildings and modernist architectonic elements. The lonely figure that “inhabits” her paintings are often self-portraits. Her paintings of intimate subjects and her fast and fresh brush stroke reminds us of the Spanish Realism.
